The delivery market in El Salvador is in reloading, as hugo ends operations

In 2021, the German Delivery Hero – owner of PedidosYa – signed with hugo Technologies to acquire its vertical food delivery and fast trade centers in Central America and the Caribbean. The negotiation amounted to US$ 150 million. At the time of the agreement, the parties announced that the application had 1.3 million users and 800 employees on the payroll.

After the conclusion of the purchase process, hugo App’s operations have been resumed by Orders since it operates in 70 countries in Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.

Delivery Hero entered Central America in March 2021 through PedidosYa a unit that a year earlier had acquired for US$ 201 million the operation of another delivery application, the Spanish Glovo, which operated in several Latin American markets, including Guatemala and Honduras.

Through a letter sent to affiliated businesses, hugo App gave a brief review of how in a matter of 5 years, he managed to position itself as a leader of the segment in several Central American countries.

The application was founded in 2017 by three Salvadoran entrepreneurs. It became the first Central American super app by expanding operations in Honduras and Nicaragua, and for a while in Costa Rica and Jamaica, as well as with a significant presence in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.

In the last two countries, he stopped operating in November 2022 to make way for PedidosYa.
