Ocado Group has just announced its acquisition of 6 River Systems, a collaborative AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot) fulfilment solutions provider that caters to the logistics and non-grocery retail sectors. The Massachusetts-based company, founded in 2015, has developed a remarkable Autonomous Mobile Robot product called ‘Chuck’, which assists human operators in a warehouse.
Ocado Technology’s CEO, James Matthews, expressed his excitement, saying, “We are delighted to welcome new colleagues to the Ocado family. 6 River Systems brings exciting new IP and possibilities to the wider Ocado technology estate, as well as valuable commercial and R&D expertise in non-grocery retail segments. Chuck robots are currently deployed in over 100 warehouses worldwide, with more than 70 customers. We’re looking forward to supporting 6 River Systems to build on these and new relationships in the years to come.”
The acquisition of 6 River Systems is expected to enhance Ocado’s technology capabilities, as well as allow the company to expand into new markets beyond its current online grocery offerings. As Ocado continues to grow and evolve its technology, this acquisition is poised to accelerate the company’s development and place it at the forefront of innovative automation solutions.
